Taylor Swift is Self-Publishing Her New Book
by Drew Tatum
Taylor Swift threw the entire publishing game for a loop with her latest boss move, and people in the industry are shaken! According to Business Insider, she’s ditchin’ the traditional publishers and distributors and doing this thing all on her own. Taylor’s self-publishing her upcoming book, Eras Tour, a 256-page journey that’s droppin’ exclusively at Target on Black Friday, for $39.99.
Now, let’s be real — Taylor ain’t like the rest of ’em. She’s launching this under her own brand, Taylor Swift Publications. And what that means? All those big bucks that usually go to publishers through advances and royalties? Taylor’s keepin’ a much bigger slice of that pie for herself. Business Insider pointed out that celebs usually bring in serious cash for publishers, but Taylor’s swerved all that middleman business. When you self-publish, you control the vibe, the timing, and creative flow. The trade-off? You don’t have the big printing machines, distributors, or those big PR teams pushing the book — but if anyone can make this work, it’s T-Swift.
And let’s not sleep on her strategy. The analysts at BI already know what time it is — Taylor will tap into her massive fan army and unstoppable social media presence to get this book flying off the shelves. The book’s gonna be packed with hundreds of behind-the-scenes shots and deep reflections from her tour, which spanned across five continents and pulled in over a billion dollars. That’s a whole new level of flex.
Her decision to self-publish might even have a ripple effect. Other authors, especially those who aren’t household names but still have a following, might look at this and say, “Hey, maybe I can do that too!” As Erik Hane, founder of Headwater Literary Management, told BI, Taylor’s in her own lane, but plenty of others could take this route and make it pop.
Oh, and don’t forget, Taylor’s been making boss moves for a minute now. Remember how she dropped multiple versions of her records with different covers? And that Eras Tour film she self-produced last year? Straight genius.
She’s also keeping her relationship with Target strong. On November 29th, she’s droppin’ The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology on vinyl and CD, and yep, you guessed it — another Target exclusive.
Taylor’s out here showing everyone how to level up, keep control of your work, and stack your coins. The industry better take notes. -DT
